Welcome to my Academics Page!

Welcome to my journey to graduation!
Here are some of my best highlights throughout my college career in the Southern Illinois University's Mass Communications department in Edwardsville, Illinois. In addition to my best script work, you will also find highlights of my best camera work in my demo reel video. All material can be found below. Enjoy!
MC 330 Television News Package Script
Television News Package
This is the script for a television news package that I wrote for a MC 330: Advanced Broadcast Writing assignment.  Although this wasn't aired anywhere, the purpose of this project was to still give me a solid understanding on how to provide on-air talent with professional content in a "real world" television newsroom. Since this wasn't a video production class, none of this content was actually filmed. All SOTs came from either quotes in articles or one-on-one interviews. I am responsible for all of the work in this script. This fits the following ACEJMC Professional Values and Competencies: 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12.

FCB Bank Radio Commercial
MC 330 FCB Bank Radio Commericial Script
This is the script for a 60-second radio commercial that I wrote for a MC 330: Advanced Broadcast Writing assignment. Although this wasn't aired anywhere, the purpose of this project was to still give me a solid understanding of how to write a radio spot for a "real world" audience, both creatively and professionally. Since this wasn't a video or audio production class, none of this content was actually recorded. I am responsible for all of the work in this script. This fits the following ACEJMC Professional Values and Competencies: 2, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12.

Starbuck's Radio Commercial
MC 330 Starbuck's Commercial Script

This is the script for a 30-second radio commercial that my MC 330 class all created for our first in-class project of the semester. The purpose of this project was to introduce us to advanced braodcast writing style and how to creatively write and design a commercial spot as a team. A big shoutout goes to our professor, Dr. Mark Poepsel, for providing us with this unique product idea. Since this wasn't a video or audio production class, none of this content was actually recorded. My entire MC 330 class is responsible for this commercial. This fits the following ACEJMC Professional Values and Competencies: 4, 5, 7, 9, 10, 12.

In addition, MC 333 provided me with the opportunity to design and create productions with professional cameras  and Avid Media Composer software for SIUE's weekly student television show, Global Village. I was responsible for all of the work in this project, including the filming and editing. You will find this commercial in my demo reel, which is down at the bottom of this page. This fits the following ACEJMC Professional Values and Competencies: 4, 5, 7, 9, 10, 12.

AXE Commercial
MC 325 AXE Commercial Script

This is the script for a 30-second TV commercial that I created for a MC 325: Introduction to Advertising assignment. The purpose of this project was to get my feet wet in terms of advertising a "big name" product, while exercising my script writing skills that I had learned from MC 204 and 333. This gave me great practice in preparing me for MC 330: Advanced Broadcast Writing the following semester. Since this wasn't a video or audio production class, this commercial wasn't filmed or used by AXE's company at all. I am responsible for all of the work in this script. This fits the following ACEJMC Professional Values and Competencies: 4, 5, 7, 9, 10, 12.

Division I Men's Soccer. Demo Reel
Welcome to the SIUE Global Village Experience!
Here is my demo reel of my SIUE Global Village camera work for my MC 333: Advanced Video Writing and Production class during the Fall 2015 semester.

The Global Village Commercial was done entirely by me. This includes writing the script, playing the acting role, filming every shot and editing the final cut of the production.

The Texting And Driving PSA was a group project that I did with one of my classmates, Brendan Overton. He let me write the script on my own and be the director, but we did everything else as a team. We are the actors in this production and we are both responsible for the filming and editing. Special thanks goes to Brendan. Without him, this wouldn't have been possible.

All Global Village Show segments were done entirely by me. This includes directing, producing, planning the stories, conducting all interviews, filming every shot, and editing each production. As you'll probably see throughout the reel, I have arranged each segment in this section to play in the order that I did them throughout the semester. So, you should see my work gradually improve as the reel progresses. I think this is very important to show in terms of proving why I am strongly recommending the SIUE Mass Communications department to future incoming students.

I am also completely responsible for the editing of this demo reel.

All shots were filmed with a Canon XF-300 video camera.

All segments were edited using Avid Media Composer software.

ENJOY!
